Wigan Labour control Council are now proposing to allow 1000 new homes in Standish. After over a year of go and back and forth the Council said that the Government had told them to do this, which is incorrect, then the Council said that they would do a traffic survey and if that said that the roads couldn't cope then the 1000 houses wouldn't go ahead.
There report is now out and here it is. The report says the roads can't cope but guess what? The Council are still going to allow the houses. What a let down again on the Council!
The report basically says that residents of Standish will have to cut their use of their cars or get used to longer delays. The question that I have to the Council is why should they?
The plan that the Council are looking at is 500 houses on the line. That will go from behind Robin Hill and Almond Brook hotel all the way past Standish High school to the new estate behind the beeches. Then 300 houses would go on the land at the front of golf course and some land opposite. Then finally there would be 200 houses would go on the back of the golf course on the opposite of the railway line. Access would be off Chorley Road.
We are holding a meeting at the Unity Club on Monday 2nd December 2013 at 7.30pm. This is to update people with the plans of the Council and see what action people want to take.
Apart from completing the leaflet which wainhomes have distributed to households in the affected area and submitting objections to any planning application (which seems like a futile effort if the controlling council seem to be allowing this to happen), what more can be done to stop this from happening.
ReplyDeleteDon't vote Labour in the 2014 local elections is one of the obvious solutions Anon.
DeleteThat's one of the point of the meeting to discuss.
ReplyDeleteGareth why hasn’t the Save Standish website or the Save Standish Face book page been updated since July this year………Surly this was the biggest thing on your agenda as the Councillor for Standish ??? People can’t act unless you keep them informed and Have a plan!
ReplyDeleteThe best strategy should be to get as many jobs as possible and make the development something that adds to Standish for all existing and new residents
ReplyDeleteSomeone else did the Save Standish facebook page, but yes the save Standish does need updating. It has been such a busy time.
ReplyDeleteIt's not about being busy! It is about prioritising! The proposed plan is ridicules.
ReplyDeleteGareth, is there anywhere we can look the proposed "plan?" Only we live on Almond Brook Road, and have only been made aware of this by "word of mouth."
ReplyDeleteWe haven't even had a "leaflet" yet apparently the building will be taking place in the field directly behind our home!
I truly believe that being informed allows people to ask questions and make decisions.
It just astounds me that the Council are even considering this again.
We hope to be there at the meeting to find out more.
The planning application hasn't gone in yet. The plan by the Council is on line and if you go to the second paragraph and the seventh word "here", click on that and that will take you to the Council's document. It is quite large but diagrams and options are at the end too.
ReplyDeleteAs soon as any plans are online for the planning application I will post it on here
Thanks Gareth, it makes interesting reading.
ReplyDeleteWe're hoping to be at the meeting tomorrow.
Hello,
ReplyDeleteAgain I am someone only hearing of this by word of mouth.
Is there anywhere I can view up to date facts on these proposed plans, anywhere??
As it stands I have read three different figures on the proposed number of houses to be built on/off rectory lane, some reaching four figures and some as low as a a few hundread!!!
How can a democratic society function with no direct and easy way of obtaining facts?
Also, as with any new build estates shall I take it for granted that as well as paying a higher rate of 'parish council tax' as well as a site fee for services usually covered by this?

The figures are the Council will allow approximate 1000 new houses to be built on green open spaces. This is on top of houses built on other sites. The land for the 1000 houses are the old golf course. Some land opposite and then the area called the line. It si important to remember that the hundred of houses proposed for Bradley Hall Trading Estate is not included in this 1000.
ReplyDeleteAlso it is important to remember that it is approx. 1000 so I think it will be more 1200 houses. Finally after 5 yrs the developers can come and have another go in Standish.
