I think any one who has been to Standish, today or yesterday, will have witnessed the craziness what the Council has done. Yes, I get it that they thought they were trying to resole the situation but who in their right mind would put a car head on with another car? I am no expert in traffic management but my knowledge is that when passing, you go driver to driver.
Cllr George Fairhurst has had an emergency meeting with engineers today, and I have written to the Council this evening to support his comments and some of my own too and that is this system is not going to work. It is dangerous and whilst we need to look at trying to improve things at the crossroads, this is not the answer. Hopefully the Council will agree with both Cllr George Fairhurst and myself and that is the crossroads is dangerous and not going to work.
You can rest assured that we will be working to resolve this matter as a matter of urgency.
I have got loads of messages to respond to, and I will try and get through them all, and phone calls to return too. Let's hope we can get the Council to remove this ASAP. Thanks for everyone for getting in touch too.
OMG, who in their right minds would think up a traffic light scheme that now involves playing a game of chicken with the oncoming traffic!!! Perhaps the men/women in the hi-viz vests, who have been hanging around Standish with their clipboards every few weeks counting the different colour of cars (because they’ve obviously not been doing anything relating to traffic flow) would have their time better spent actually at the lights directing traffic!!!
ReplyDeleteCllrs Fairhurst, that's who! It was their idea. Now they are trying to claim the credit for putting it back to how it was before! Unbelievable, More face than't town hall clock!
DeleteIf they thought it would help with queues, they were wrong. I travelled through the lights today. The queue to get down School Lane to the lights was all the way round the corner at St Maries Church, back to the entrance to the estate behind the Beeches.
ReplyDeleteThis was at 1:40pm, on a non-school day. Should have been very quiet. Imagine what it is going to be like next week...
A box junction would be a better option.
ReplyDeleteToday 29/10/13 about 2pm I was in the waiting position attempting to drive from Market St into Preston Rd. Opposite me coming down School Lane turning right to Wigan was one of the largest articulated lorries imaginable. These lorries have a difficult enough job turning right there at the best of times, and this wasn't the best of times. Luckily there was no car behind me and I was able to back up. It won't always be as easy especially at peak times. How long before there's an accident?
