Victory for Standish residents !!!!!!!

Good news for residents experiencing problems at the crossroads in Standish will be glad to know that it will be going back to normal tomorrow.

After Cllr George Fairhurst and myself contacting the Council they have agreed to remove the system ASAP.

The Council say that they have tried a couple of new systems and that they have not work so there is nothing left for them to improve the traffic lights.

  1. There is nothing they can do now but what they did a couple of days ago was downright stupidity.

  2. I thought it was working really well with no traffic build up in market street. Just a suggestion but how about a trial roundabout and the pedestrian crossings being put 50M from the junction on each exit?

  3. Thank goodness for that. If the council recognize that they cannot improve the junction what effect do they think 1000 new homes would have once added to the equation.

  4. Great comment Pat. This questions needs to be answered before one of the thousands house is built, in my opinion.

  5. I agree - thank goodness! It was a ridiculous idea, if driving from Rectory Lane turning right it was dangerous & only one car getting through each time & that was as the lights turn back to red.

  6. As a new drive of just over 12mths,the Standish lights was a nightmere n the new system was just scary, god help us when the new estate is built, really dont like this VILLAGE anymore.!!

  9. it's all good and well claiming victory but why weren't we made aware of the intended plan before it happened? surely it would've been stopped then.
thankfully common sense prevails and the sequence is being changed back to normal! to even suggest the new sequence works well is just ridiculous.

the crossroads is a busy place as people use it as a get through to the Motorway. there is no way to improve the system, so it needs to be left a lone, it works well personally speaking, it's just the general amount of traffic which needs address or a bypass creating.

  10. Standish is not a village anymore more like a Town with no extra services god help us when they build the 1000 houses glad the so called planers are going to alter the lights back we have enough congestion in the so called village

  12. Have they put a huge no left turn sign up yet instead of painting lines on the road. I was nearly hit crossing that road while pushing my son in his pram. I was crossing legally while the man was on green. There is no proper signage there it's ridiculous and extremely dangerous. And I know for a fact that in the estate agents they have bets on how many people are actually going to turn left in a day.

  13. What good news. Now I will be able to get to where I am going without trying to avoid the lights.
For the safety of those crossing at the lights, its a shame that there isn't a system in place to catch and fine those who turn left where they shouldn't.
All I can do is teach my children to be aware that cars may turn when they are crossing even though it should be safe to go.
No matter what councils do there will always be some idiots on the road.

  14. Hi Cllr, regarding motorist turning left out of market street into high st stanidh - may I suggest the simple locating of a traffic camera targeting that turn. Any motorist will be spotted and could be fined. Judging by the amount of traffic i personally have seen making this turn, the camera would fund itself

  15. Anon, I agree and this is what I was hoping for, not the mess that we got. I also agree that it would fund itself. The Council simply refuse this idea.
