No Bin collection for Standish on Thursday

Due to strike action, whatever that will solve, Wigan Council will not be collecting any Black or Blue in Standish, Shevington, Aspull and Appley Bridge on Thursday. Other services will also be effected like schools and the advice is to check with schools if they are effected.

Wigan Council are saying that they will collect the bins the next time they are due to be collected and will not be doing an additional collection after the strike action is over. The Council also say to take your rubbish to the tip yourselves.

Here is my gripe - why no refund? I switched internet provider to BT recently and they failed to deliver a service for a period of time. They refund the time that they charged me and didn't give me a service. Residents in Standish pay the some of the highest Council tax and now told to pay more by taking the rubbish to the tip yourself.

I will be writing to the Council and asking for them to take extra rubbish the next collection, i.e. bin bags or to give residents a refund for the charge of collection of the bins. I will let you know what they say.

  1. I don't want a refund or my rubbish picked up next time, I want my bins that are full now emptied!!

Some of us can't get to the tip and have full bins, if they can do extra collections after adverse weather they can do one when the militant soap dodgers call a strike.

  4. The black bins already only get emptied once a fortnight, now it will be a month before mine gets emptied. How can that be healthy...disgusting. Why should we go to the tip, we pay our council tax to get rubbish removed

  5. That is a joke, how do they expect people to get rid of their rubbish if they have no transport, we pay for this service. Now my back yard is going to be full of rubbish. We should all dump our rubbish in the streets then it is their problem. Pathetic typical actions from a useless council

  7. The whole point of strike action is to inconvenience people. This way it draws attention to the cause and raises the public's awareness.
Public sector workers who go on strike do not make their decision lightly.

    1. Unions are a tool of a bygone time, look at Germany where they take it all to arbitration and then take the verdict of an impartial panel.

UK unions are just old socialist dinosaurs with nothing more in their agenda than to bring down the UK economy as they did in the 70's
